This work was done at Lam's studio at Beijing. The original artistic concept was "bringing his faith in art to Beijing". Lam first planned to draw an image of a mountain range on the wooden panel, then erase it. The debris and marks made during the process would then be sealed with fixer. At first he imagined that little of the image of the mountain would remain as he erased the drawing, but in the end, its shape turned out to be clearer, as the fixer only rubbed into, instead of removing the remaining charcoal marks from the wooden panels. This result led him to the contemplation of the Chinese parable of "Faith Moves Mountain".
