The Toledo Museum of Art

The Toledo Museum of Art
Toledo, United States

Since our founding in 1901, the Toledo Museum of Art (TMA) has earned a global reputation for the quality of our collection, our innovative and extensive education programs, and our architecturally significant campus.

TMA’s collections transcend temporal, geographical, and cultural boundaries. More than 25,000 works of art represent American and European painting, the history of art in glass, ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian works, Asian and African art, medieval art, sculpture, decorative arts, graphic arts, and modern and contemporary art. To accommodate the ever-growing collection and the increasing demand for art education, the Museum campus has expanded exponentially since its founding, now stretching nearly 40 acres and comprising seven buildings. In 2006, TMA opened the Glass Pavilion (GP) to house its famed glass collection and to serve as a working glass studio. The GP, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning firm SANAA, has received national and international accolades.

The Museum continues to build off these strengths in the early years of its second century. Our vision for the institution—articulated in our recently completed strategic plan—is to become the model art museum in the United States for our commitment to quality and our culture of belonging. TMA is resolute in its mission “to integrate art into the lives of people” in ways that reflect our four values of diversity, innovation, community, and trust.
