early 14th century

Rubin Museum of Art
New York, Estados Unidos

Buddha Ratnasambhava, presiding over the southern direction, can be recognized by his yellow color, the gesture of giving performed with his right hand, and the tiny horses flanking his throne. To his sides are the white Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara on the left and the yellow Bodhisattva Maitreya on the right. The ten additional Bodhisattvas in the upper area mirror each other and thus represent types rather than individuals. In the bottom row, the five forms of the wealth deity Jambhala represented on the right mirror the colors of the Five Buddhas. They are joined by the protectors Mahakala Panjaranatha and Dusolma, a form of Palden Lhamo.
